Temporary Graduate Visa of Australia (Subclass 485)
The Subclass 485-Temporary Graduate Visa is a visa program that allows international students to work full time in Australia. Those who have completed at least 2 years of study onshore can avail this. It is valid for 18 months to 4 years, depending on circumstances.
Visa Streams
Two streams are there for Subclass 485 visa:
- Graduate work: It is for international students who have completed at least 2 years of study in Australia and valid for 18 months from the date of granting.Your field of study must relate to the mentioned skills in the Australian Skilled Occupation List (SOL) to apply.
- Post-study work: This visa stream is for the international students who have completed their higher education in an Australian educational institution. This visa is valid only for the international students who applied for and were granted their student visa after November 5, 2011. Depending on the qualification of the applicant, a visa under this stream can be valid for up to 4 years.
Qualifications and visa duration for PSW are:
- bachelor’s degree or general master’s degree – 2 years
- research-based master’s degree – 3 years
- Ph.D. – 4 years
Eligibility to Apply
- Age:The main applicant must be below the age of 50 at the time of lodgement.
- English Language proficiency:You must have a minimum competency level of English skills and undertake some English language ability tests.
- Must complete health insurance for the time of stay in Australia.
- Should have a sound health condition.
- Points test:This Subclass 485 visa is not points-tested.
2 year Study requirement
To be eligible for this visa, you must complete the study in Australia for over 2 years or more. The full requirements are:
- The course completed must be registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CROCOS).
- You must receive the qualification within the 6 months leading up to the application.
- You must study the course in English and have a valid Australian student visa for the duration of the study.
